Stephen Nichols

Stephen Nichols

Deputy Director and Heart Health Theme Leader

Prof Stephen Nicholls is Deputy Director and Heart Health Theme Leader at the South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute at the University of Adelaide in Adelaide, Australia. He completed his cardiology training at the John Hunter Hospital and undertook his doctoral studies at the University of Adelaide. 

Prof Nicholls has written over 770 manuscripts, book chapters and conference proceedings. His research is focused on strategies to reduce the risk of heart disease, novel vascular imaging and generating an understanding of the factors that promote plaque formation. He has raised over $100 million in research funding. 

Prof Nicholls has received multiple awards, including the Cleveland Clinic Innovator Award in 2011, the NHMRC Research Excellence Award in 2016, the RT Hall Price in 2018 and the Eric Susman Prize in 2022.
