Biography

Dr Hein J Wellens is widely regarded as one of the pioneering founders of clinical cardiac electrophysiology. Known across Europe as “the giant of Maastricht,” he was closely associated with the University of Limburg School of Medicine in Maastricht, the Netherlands. From 1976 until his retirement in 2002, Dr Wellens led the Department of Cardiology, training generations of clinicians who went on to shape the field globally. He passed away in 2020, leaving an enduring legacy in cardiac electrophysiology.
