Welcome to Arrhythmia & Electrophysiology Review Volume 7 Issue 4.

AER is delighted that this issue marks its first as the official journal of the British Heart Rhythm Society (BHRS), and looks forward to collaboration with BHRS members and the wider global electrophysiology community in its aim to provide a valuable free-to-access resource to support continuous education and the sharing of ideas and opinion.

Consistent with its goals, this issue of AER comprises a breadth of articles contributed by opinion leaders in their respective fields. Among the contributions, Zaza et al. explore the relationship between arrhythmias and heart rate, noting that the prognostic significance of arrhythmia relationship – and the consequence of heart rate on arrhythmogenesis – may depend on the substrate present in the specific case, and should be considered accordingly.

Elsewhere, Boyle et al. explore team management beyond that of cardiac electrophysiologists for the ventricular tachycardia patient. Particularly for patients presenting with comorbidities – including heart failure – and with requirements of anaesthetic intervention, the authors discuss the importance of expertise of other specialists in the provision of holistic and optimal patient care.

Chen et al. contribute a comprehensive review summarising current knowledge of electrophysiological characteristics of non-pulmonary vein paroxysmal atrial fibrillation, suitable mapping and ablation strategies, and the safety and efficacy of catheter ablation of atrial fibrillation initiated by ectopic foci.

AER is always seeking review and opinion from leading figures from across the electrophysiology community. For further information, please contact Jonathan McKenna.
